About Park
Bannerughatta Biological Park (BBP) was carved out of Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) vide notification No FEE 19 FWL 98, Bangalore, Dated: 5th March 2004 and was brought under the administrative jurisdiction of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK), Government of Karnataka (GOK)
The Park has various units such as Zoo, Safari, Butterfly park and Rescue Centre spread over an area of 731.88 hectares. The field activities of the biological park are many fold as it is classified as one of the large zoos in the state and country, with a lot of scope for scientific development. The activities prevailing in the Biological Park includes regular maintenance of visitor facilities and zoo enclosures, which exhibits varieties of birds, reptiles and mammals along with providing suitable species specific enrichment to maintain high standards of welfare as well as to preserve the local fauna to retain the green cover to provide visitors an immersive experience. Various Safari sub units offer visitors a chance to view free-ranging captive mammals such as deer, antelope, gaur, bears, leopards, lions and tigers within naturalistic exhibits showcasing the habitat of the adjoining national park, within the enclosed safari units, in protected vehicles. The Butterfly Park acts as pioneer for education and research of lesser known ecologically significant insects and other invertebrates through up close experience of both fauna as well as flora, mainly highlighting the host and nectar plants essential for butterflies to complete their life cycle. Rescue Centres are off display units vital for provision of life time facilities to the rescued animals like tigers, lions and bears from circuses and other illegal uses of wildlife as performing animals as well as for temporary housing, care of injured or abandoned urban wildlife, providing them a second lease of life to return to their natural habitat. The overall daily functioning and activities of all the sections aims to support the objectives of the National Zoo Policy 1998 through education, conservation breeding, research, rescue and rehabilitation to contribute towards the Nation’s Ex-situ Conservation Efforts.
Vision
To protect and conserve Wildlife and Environment through Sustainable and Scientific management of zoo.
Mission

OBJECTIVES
- To compliment and strengthen the national efforts in ex-situ conservation and strength the conservation of the rich Bio-Diversity of the country, particularly the fauna.
- Supporting the conservation of endangered species by giving species, which have no chance of survival in wild, a last chance of survival through coordinated breeding under ex-situ condition and raise stocks for rehabilitating them in wild as and when it is appropriate and desirable.
- To inspire amongst zoo visitors empathy for wild animals, an understanding and awareness about the need for conservation of natural resources and for maintaining the ecological balance.
- Providing opportunities for scientific studies, Research and documentation on conservation and creation of database for sharing between authorities involved in In-Situ and Ex-Situ conservation.
